Patricia Ann Johnson died at 40 years of age from the effects of a stroke. Her mother, Maxine Laverne Johnson, also suffered the devastating impact of this disease. They are the reason Fight Stroke Now exists.
Their legacy is honored through this initiative's commitment to stroke education -- and through a vision for creating pathways for women of color in healthcare. Communities that face disproportionately higher stroke risk deserve more representation in the healthcare professions that serve them.
Fight Stroke Now carries their memory forward not through a monument, but through action: education programs, community outreach, and a long-term vision for scholarship support that reflects the values they lived.
